تتحدث القصيدة عن شخص لا يحب مقابلة الناس الجدد، ويشعر بالحرج عندما يصافح أحداً أو يعانقه أو يقبّله. يقول إنه غالباً يطوي ذراعيه وينحني برأسه، وينظر إلى قدميه بدلاً من النظر إلى الشخص الآخر — مع أنه يعرف أن الابتسامة مهمة، ويحاول أن يبتسم، لكنه ببساطة لا يستطيع فعل ذلك بسهولة.
